‘Sabbath Highway’ EP by The Watchers really doesn’t need much of an introduction as the title gives away strong hints as to its sound…. It takes that heady Ozzy sound and the modern sHeavy twist to pound out some flab rocking beats with riffs a plenty that can get right down and dirty at times.
I would recommend using this track for your aerobic running machine treadmill workout as the rhythmic regularity would help rack up the miles!
The Watchers are heading out on the highway looking for adventure in a a US tour, including a slot at the Maryland Doomfest! What a hot gig that’ll be, The Watchers alongside Bang and others, man!! before returning to the studio for another long player due out around September – keep an eye out on Ripple Music for that.
For a good thigh workout, I would go for ‘The Liars Bend Low’ by Pyreship on Black Bow Records. A high octane pumping post metal sound, with a Seattle sound post grunge postulation. ‘Machine Man’ includes a great sample dialogue that is very apt for these times about the importance of individuality and warning against slavery of hate. Musically its builds big, like Conifer or Isis as a mountain is thrust up through the earth towards the sky, the very ground rumbles with their bass as rock falls and their drums shatter any peace we seek.
‘Die-Sect’ and closing track ‘…Are we Dead Yet?’ ups the ante as I go for the burn and break that pain barrier. Another winner from the Black Bow stable.
And after every workout, we need to warm down, and what better way than with a cocktail from psyche twizzlers Heavy Traffic. As your muscles fire with twitches, let the waves of acid soaked guitar and phased vocals wash over like a warm bubble bath…. ‘Plastic Surgery’ is out now on Twin Earth records and sees Heavy Traffic develop from its original duo to a full band so that they can tour, and this album has been recorded live, not the only thing that makes me think of Blue Cheer when listening. And they are going on the road in September 2017 with some US east coast shows, let the people in, and lock all the doors I say and pass round the kool aid!
High on effects and wah-wah it’s a treat for the comedown.
