The Healing Power of #MetalBandcampGiftClub

fvs_thumbsupWe are well over a month into the #MetalBandcampGiftClub movement and it has been nothing short of amazing. The amount of gifts being sent out is outstanding and it has made the Metal twitter community closer. Some people’s wishlists have been cleaned out so quickly that they needed to replenish it. Others can’t wait for payday so they can make another person happy. It’s inspiring, and what I realized over the past few days, it can also heal during a time of tribulation.

Just recently I had a bad night, and because of my depression, it progressively got worse. It became so bad I had to take a break from social media to fully concentrate on getting better. Of course I had my family, especially JD, to help me get through it. Sometimes, however, that is not enough. I needed a bit more. That’s where MBCGC came in. Every so often a gift was sent to me. It made my sad face smile. Not just the gift itself, but the touching messages written alongside the gift. It truly helped the healing process significantly.

A day before I came back on twitter I opened it just to survey what was going on. I noticed I had over 50 notifications awaiting me. One by one, a message of support, from people I have never met. Some from people I’ve been following for a long time, others from those I’ve just followed a few weeks ago. I was, and still am, touched by all of the support I received. You all helped me heal.

What started as a simple hashtag has become a community, a family, who care and respect each other. Besides gifting, we recommend bands to each other, we support the bands, and most importantly, we support those in their time of need. I will many more days where I’ll suffer like I did recently. During those times, however, I know #MetalBandcampGiftClub and #NiceMetalTwitter will not hesitate to support me. For that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. #HAIL
